Retrace — Terms of Sale
Last updated: 2026-09-20
These terms cover the purchase of the optional Backup & restore unlock for Retrace. The Retrace extension itself is free to install and use; buying the unlock is entirely optional. By purchasing, you agree to these terms.
What you're buying
A one-time license to use the Backup & restore feature inside Retrace — the ability to export everything Retrace has stored (your sessions, Spaces, activity log, and settings) to a file, and to import that file to merge or fully restore on another device or after a reinstall. It is a single, one-time payment of $10 — not a subscription. There are no recurring charges.
Your license
Your purchase grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Backup & restore feature. You may use your key on the devices where you personally use Retrace. Please don't share, resell, or publish your license key — it's for your own use.
Payment and merchant of record
Payments are processed by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd), acting as the merchant of record. This means Paddle handles the transaction, receipts, and any applicable sales tax or VAT on our behalf. Your purchase is also subject to Paddle's own buyer terms. The Retrace extension is not involved in the payment and never sees your payment details.
Delivery
After a successful purchase you'll receive a license key by email, in the form RTRC-…. Keys are issued manually, so delivery is usually within a few hours and no later than 2 business days. Paste your key into Retrace › Settings › Backup & restore › Unlock to activate the feature. If your key hasn't arrived, contact us (below) and we'll sort it out.
Offline activation
Your license key is verified entirely on your device, using a cryptographic signature check against a public key built into the extension. No server is ever contacted to activate or validate it — this is what keeps Retrace's "no network requests" promise true even for paid users. It also means we cannot remotely disable a key once it has been issued.
Refunds
Because the license activates instantly and can't be remotely disabled, we offer full refunds within 14 days if your key doesn't arrive, doesn't work, or you hit a technical problem we can't resolve — rather than discretionary "changed my mind" refunds once a working key is delivered. Full details in our Refund Policy.
Availability
Backup & restore is available in the Microsoft Edge version of Retrace. The Google Chrome version is free and does not include the paid feature.
No warranty
Retrace and the Backup & restore feature are provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Backup files are only as complete as what Retrace has stored at the time you export; a Retrace session is a record of the tabs you saved, not a capture of unsaved in-page state. You are responsible for keeping your own backup files safe.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Backup & restore unlock is limited to the amount you paid for it. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost data, arising from use of the extension.
Privacy
How Retrace handles your data is described in our Privacy Policy. In short: everything stays on your device and the extension makes no network requests.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the updated version will be posted at this same location with a new "Last updated" date.
